Industrial Breakaway Couplings are typically installed onto Loading arms and hose assemblies where at least one side is attached to a fixed point. Industrial Breakaway couplings are used to prevent pull-away accidents, protect terminal and loading/unloading equipment and eliminate unwanted product release. The breakaway couplings have a diverted breaking point which will break at a determined break-load whereupon the internal valves will automatically close the valves on both sides hence the flow ceases. This will minimize down time, and save money, equipment and the environment.

The break­away cou­plings have a pre­de­fined breaking point which will break at a de­ter­mined break-load where upon the internal valves will au­to­mat­i­cal­ly close flow on both sides.

Safety Break­away Cou­plings (Emer­gency Release Cou­plings) with in­te­grat­ed shut-off valves are used to avoid spillage and damage as­so­ci­at­ed with drive and/or pull away in­ci­dents when loading and un­load­ing. The cou­plings are designed to be the weakest link of the hose line or loading arm. This will in a longer time frame minimize down time, save the en­vi­ron­ment, equip­ment and the in­vest­ment. Safety Breakaway Couplings for Industrial Applications

Typically installed between a fixed point and a hose line, breakaway couplings prevent the risk of spills, protect your installation and ensure operator safety on a broad range of applications requiring a secure fluid transfer.

Separation occurs when force is applied axial or up to 90° (any direction) to the plane of the coupling and safety is provided thanks to an instantaneous closure of both flows.

The Breakaway Coupling acts as an identified safe parting point in a hose or loading arm product transfer line, separating in the event of excessive forces being applied, and provides an instantaneous mechanical positive closedown, therefore eliminating from both sides involved, the possibility of human danger, explosion, fire or environmental pollution damage.

Industrial Break-away coupling is utilized all industrial product transfer installations. The industrial Safety Break-away Couplings are specifically designed to be able to activate with a tensile force being applied at an angle to the plane of the coupling housing, up to 90 degrees. Typically installed into loading arm and hose assemblies, where at least one side of the coupling is attached to a rig and fixed point.

Breakaway Coupling. This actuates when sufficient side load is imposed on three radial break studs on the coupler. Once the first (waisted) stud is stretched, the internal poppets will close before the seal is breached and then the two halves of the coupler will part. The result is an almost zero displacement of liquid. The key to success in this type of coupler comes from the shear angle being in the optimum range to allow the studs to break cleanly. If it is a direct pull force, because of positioning, the arm could fail first.

Emergency Release Coupling. Essentially the same internal design, but the two halves of the coupler are held together by a clamp, wihich, in turn, is held together by a system with a break pin. The pin is connected to a Bowden cable and that is fixed to a bracket that tracks the rotation of a loading arm swivel. A pre-determined range of movement is set up and if the arm is pulled outside of that range, the cable will break the pin and the clamp will open. Releasing the two halves and closing the poppets.
