Shipyard facilities for ship repair

Shipyard facilities for ship repair

The facilities contained in the shipyards for ship repair play a major role in determining the quality of a ship repair. In general, these facilities are used to raise and lower the ships to be repaired so that reparation work, especially for underwater works can be carried out. Below are the facilities and facilities at the shipyard used for ship repair:

1. Keel block.

A standard test casting, for steel and other high-shrinkage alloys, consisting of a rectangular bar that resembles the keel of a boat, attached to the bottom of a large riser, or shrinkhead. Keel blocks that have only one bar are often called Y-blocks; keel blocks having two bars, double keel blocks. Test specimens are machined from the rectangular bar, and the shrinkhead is discarded.

Side block is wood that is used to prop the side of the ship. The height of the side block must be adjusted to the height of the bottom of the ship’s dock. Whereas the distance to the block is adjusted to the width of the ship to be repaired.
