Woven brake lining one of type usually in marine use type is WR251 is a high-quality woven brake lining, specially developed for applications such as brake and friction strips on anchor winches and industrial clutches (e.g. cone clutch). Depending on the situation, WR251 can be used for a wide range of other applications. For example it has been used as a replacement for asbestos.
Characteristics of brake lining WR251 :
WR251 is a densely-woven, semi-flexible friction material/brake lining. It is based on a yarn spun from a mixture of glass and synthetic fibres, combined with a fine copper wire to improve the strength and heat dissipation characteristics. This composition was specially developed to combine good friction characteristics with flexibility The high friction coefficient performs excellently in wet, oily and damp environments; these facts make this product particularly suitable for maritime applications.

Characteristics of woven brake lining :
- Very high friction coefficient
- Resistant to high temperatures
- Very strong
- Oil resistant
- Seawater resistant
- Flexible
- Custom-made
Installation :
There are different possible installation methods for the brake lining. The most commonly used method is the vulcanisation (gluing) of the brake lining on the brake/friction strips and/or brake shoe. During this process the brake shoes are placed in an oven. For bolts and rivets, the head must be countersunk into the brake lining. This requires the use of a special countersink drill bit.
Brake lining WR251 is supplied as standard on a roll (see below: roll dimensions). It is also possible for us to supply the dimensions you require, cut to size.
Roll dimensions :
Width: 410 mm Thickness: 5 to 25 mm Length: 10 metres maximum
Sheet dimensions :
Width: 400 mm Thickness: 2 to 5 mm Length: 1 meter maximum
Uses of brake lining :
- Brake/friction strips
- Brake shoes
- Winches
- Industrial clutches (cone clutches)
